Planning a bird dog nursery

A bird dog nursery is a nod to the family's mornings in the field and on the water: Labs on the duck blind, pointers locked up on quail, springers flushing pheasants. The art does most of the work, so start there and build the room around it.

Pick the breed first

If the family has a dog, use that breed. Our Labrador retriever prints come in black, chocolate and fox red, and the German shorthaired pointer sets come in blue stripe, gingham and a pink gingham version for girls. Choose colors that feel like the outdoors

Navy, hunter green, tan and a little blaze orange read classic and sporting. Baby blue stripes and gingham feel softer, and blush pink with warm browns makes a lovely bird dog nursery for a girl. Get the size right

Aim for art about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. A set of three 8x10 prints suits a standard crib wall; 11x14 sets fit a dresser or a wider wall. Every print comes in six sizes, from 5x7 to 24x36 inches.
